Introduction to our Semi-automatic headspace sampler

Our semi-automatic headspace sampler is a sample pretreatment device used for gas chromatography analysis. Its main function is to heat the sample in the sample bottle to achieve equilibrium of volatile components between gas-liquid or gas-solid phases. And then extract the upper layer gas for analysis. This technology has higher repeatability, shorter analysis time. And fewer sample pretreatment steps compared to traditional solvent extraction and thermal desorption methods.

Theory of semi-automatic headspace sampler

The working principle of our headspace sampler is to seal the sample in a container and evaporate the volatile components into the gas phase through heating. Subsequently, the upper layer gas is extracted automatically or manually and directly injected into a gas chromatograph (GC) or gas chromatography-mass spectrometer (GC-MS) for analysis. This process usually includes the following steps:

Sample heating: The sample is heated in a constant temperature environment to release volatile components from the sample.

Gas equilibrium: During the heating process, the volatile components in the sample reach equilibrium with the gas phase.

Gas extraction: Extract the upper layer gas from the sample bottle through a syringe or automatic needle.

Gas injection: Inject the extracted gas into the injection port of the gas chromatograph for analysis.

Features of our semi-automatic headspace sampler

  1. Temperature control: The temperature of the sample area, transmission line, and injection valve can be independently controlled to ensure the stability and repeatability of the sample at different temperatures.
  2. Pressure balance: Using pressure balance injection method to reduce peak broadening and improve analysis accuracy.
  3. Automatic cleaning: The sample transfer tube and injection valve have automatic cleaning function to prevent cross contamination.
  4. Flexible sample processing: Supports multiple sample bottle specifications and quantities, suitable for the needs of different laboratories.
  5. Strong compatibility: It can be compatible with various gas chromatographs and mass spectrometers without the need for large-scale modifications to the instruments.
